Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (JADUs) have been known by many names: granny flats, in-law units, backyard cottages, secondary units and more. No matter what you call them, ADUs and JADUs are an innovative, affordable, effective option for adding much-needed housing in California.

What are the Benefits of ADUs and JADUs?

California Makes it Easy

Recent California legislation has made the creation of ADUs and JADUs much simpler and less expensive than traditional residential construction.  Moreover, Marin County, in partnership with nonprofit Hello Housing, has created a new ADU program that, at no cost to property owners will: 

• Perform a feasibility assessment of your property

• Coordinate design, cost estimating and contractor selection

• Shepard your project through the permitting process
